Bizeli Yaxni with chicken drumsticks with braised peas

An inexpensive way to feed a family that is nutritious and absolutely delicious. Using inexpensive cuts of protein like chicken legs helps reduce costs and gives the dish so much flavour. Frozen vegetables are also a great way to budget. The vegetables are picked at their peak and frozen.



  • 3 tablespoons light olive oil
  • 6 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube or 1 tablespoon bouillon paste
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cup water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 5 cup frozen peas


  1. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper and cook until browned on all sides, about six to seven minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and add onions and garlic. Sauté for three to four minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Stir in cumin and tomato paste and sauté for one minute. Add in bouillon and stir while breaking it down.
  4. Add in tomatoes, water, and bay leaf, and bring to a boil.
  5. Add in chicken and peas ad reduce to a simmer. Cook for 30 to 35 minutes until slightly thickened. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve with bread to mop up the sauces. Enjoy!
