Starter green smoothie

This smoothie is a simple and tasty way to get anticancer greens into your diet and support your healthy cells. This is a great place to start if you’re new to green smoothies. Years ago, when I first entered the nutrition field and green smoothies were about to hit their popularity peak, this smoothie was my go-to. Years later, it’s still part of my morning repertoire, and even my young son gobbles it up. When a kid will drink it, you know it really has the stamp of approval. 



  • 1½ cups unsweetened dairy- free milk
  • 1 cup kale or spinach
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 2 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter (or other nut or seed butter)

Extra boosts

  • 1 frozen cube wheatgrass
  • ½ teaspoon spirulina
  • 1 tablespoon vegan protein powder
  • 1–2 medjool dates, pitted


  1. Add ingredients and blend together!
