Like it or not, masks, shields and hand sanitizer have become an essential part of our everyday lives this year. Whether you're at home, at work or on the go, having proper PPE at the ready is crucial. So we asked organization expert Michele Delory to share her top tips for safely storing protective supplies, wherever you are.

CREATE A SAFETY STATION IN YOUR ENTRYWAY

Keep masks and sanitizer top of mind with a designated safety station in your entryway: Hang masks on labelled hooks – one for each family member – to grab and go, and encourage them to drop dirty ones in a designated bin, like this one from Muji ($5), so you can tell which ones need washed. Use a smaller container ($3 at Muji) for hand sanitizer so guests and family members can quickly sanitize upon arrival.

CARRY PPE POUCHES

When you’re headed out – be it to school or the grocery store - having extra masks is always a good idea in case one gets lost or dirty. Stash extras in zippered cases ($2 ea. at Ikea) in your purse or child’s backpack, labelled ‘clean’ and ‘dirty.’ Fanny packs are another convenient (and hard to misplace) way to store PPE on the go, especially for kids who need to remove their masks during lunch and outdoor recess.

HAVE AN 'ESSENTIALS' DRAWER AT WORK

With some offices slowly reopening, you may be heading back to your workplace soon. Even at your desk, it’s important to keep your mask(s) stored in a clean and covered space, preferably inside a drawer. Drawer inserts and canisters with lids, like this one from Canadian Tire ($12), are the best solution as they can safely house sanitizer, masks and anything else you may need.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR CAR’S CONSOLE

If you constantly forget to grab a mask on your way out the door, you're not the only one. Storing some extra PPE in your car is a good failsafe. Your car’s console is the best spot to store masks and sanitizer as it's easy to access and relatively roomy. Take advantage of its depth with a small, stackable bin organizer, like this one from Canadian Tire ($7).
