You don't have to be a designer to have Instagram worthy flat lays, but it doesn't help to have help from one either! The designer duo behind Westgrove, Andrea Pierre and Keri McLellan, give a home tour of a beautiful property that they redesigned and even give us lesson on how they pulled it all together!

How to build the perfect palette

  1. Start with an inspiration source – this could be a piece of art, a rug, or in our case, a wall covering.
  2. Take cues from the piece – is it busy? Then try to take cues from the undertones. Is it calm? Maybe punch up the accent colours.
  3. Refer to your colour wheel – remember that colour wheel you learned about in high school art class? Well it’s still relevant! Use colour theory to select complimentary and tertiary accent colours for your room so it doesn’t get too themed.
  4. Texture – to add tactile interest, play with different textures. Just like when you put together your outfit in the morning with different materials, you want your space to have different textures too – smooth, shiny, rough.

Remember the elements and principles of design:

  • Pattern
  • Contrast
  • Emphasis
  • Balance
  • Scale
  • Harmony
  • Rhythm
