You don't have to spend a lot of money on decor pieces to get impact in your room...some simple economical pieces can give you just that - customizing your own pieces not only adds a personal touch to your space but it also saves you money!

Outdoor Chandelier

What you need:

  • Grape Vine Wreath
  • Greenery Stems and Wild Flowers (I like to mix mine, some from the Dollar store with ones that are better quality from Michaels)
  • Green wire twist ties
  • Jute Rope
  • String of Lights (xmas outdoor ones are the best)
  • S Hook

What to do:

  1. Wrap your string of lights around the wreath, when wrapping it around leave excess lights hanging on the bottom portion to give you a beaded chandelier effect.  Secure the lights onto of the wreath (side pointing upwards) using the green wire tie.
  2. Once you have wrapped the entire wrath in your lights, tie three pieces of rope to the wreath - this will be used to hang your light --- control your length at this point.
  3. Once your rope is secured its time to decorate it, start by using your green stems first and wrap them around the wreath, be sure to decorate both underneath, sides and on top.  Secure your stems in place by using the green wire twists.
  4. Once all the greenery is in place start adding some florals to give your piece some colour.
  5. Hang the chandelier using an S hook, plug it in and enjoy!

Sunburst mirrors

What you need:

  • Mirror Circles (any size you want, you can pick these up at Michaels for under $5.00)
  • Bamboo Skewers (Dollar Store)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Wood Medallion
  • No More Nails
  • Picture Hanging Set
  • Hammer
  • Spray Paint of your colour choice

What you do:

  1. Depending on the style of sunburst mirror you want to create this step will change.  Add an outline of a circle on the back of the mirror to give you a guideline as to where you will be sticking your skewers, you can use a plate for this or any round object you have, allow for an object that is at least 1" away from the edge.  If you decide to do one uniform circle all through out you will only need one outline as all the sticks will be on the same level.  If you want to add a staggered sunburst pattern you will outline 4-5 different circles on the back of your mirror that gradually form a bullseye -- the bullseye pattern will help guide you where to place the skewers as you follow the rings in and out.
  2. Using a hot glue gun squeeze out some glue on your first outline and place a skewer, hold it down with your finger until it hardens, then move to the other ring and repeat until your entire circle is covered with skewers.
  3. Grab your wooden medallion and attach a picture hanger to the back of it
  4. Glue it to the back centre of the mirror using a super adhesive glue like Gorilla Glue or no more nails
  5. Cover the front mirror portion with painters tape or cardboard and take it outside to a well ventilated area.  Please it on a covered surface and spray paint the bamboo skewers the colour of your choice.
  6. Let it dry and Enjoy!
