It's no secret that keeping a kitchen organized comes with it's challenges, especially if you live with numerous people. However, once you find your groove, your routine will a whole lot smoother! To make that process easier, our set designer Danielle Hunter, shared three DIYs to help take your kitchen to the next level.
DECORATIVE SHELVES
Materials needed:
Instructions:
- Create a colour scheme and gather things you have accordingly like trays, placemats and dishware or pull together things that you can use for the current season.
- Start with the backdrop and back layer using trays, placemats and plates.
- Then layer smaller items in to create character and interest.
Have fun and make your ledge a useful and creative backdrop to your kitchen!
PEG BOARD
Materials needed:
- One 4’x8’x 1/2″ sheet of veneered plywood, but we cut ours to 3’x6’
- Two 1″ wooden dowels
- Wood plank for shelves.
- 1″ Forstner Drill Bit
- Drill
- Saw
- Sandpaper
- Level
Instructions:
- Drill holes with Forstner bit. Ours were 4” apart. Use a guild to make sure the holes are drilled/ cut straight.
- Plan out your shelves and cut to size.
- Cut dowels for shelf holders, long enough to put through the board and have space on the other size for stability.
- Sand any rough edges.
- Hang the board from the back with a wooden angled cleat.
