Looking for ways to turn your house into a home? Focusing on the small details that make your space unique and special will do just that! From wall detailing to crown moulding, there are numerous ways to incorporate style and elegance into your place. Jane Lockhart shared three ways designers are adding more interest to spaces that you can totally do yourself.

WALL DETAILING

Whether you live in a modern or traditional home, wall scrolls are the latest feature to add on. Not only will they help create a sense of separation in open concept homes, but they'll also add a personal detail that makes your home stand out. This treatment is excellent for two heigh walls in a staircase rather than panel moulding.

LIGHTING

Think of lighting fixtures as an accessory that has the potential to tie together an entire room. Lighting fixtures can help draw attention to a specific area of your home, especially if it's made of mirror or glass. If you're nervous about adding a bit of bling in your light fixture, don't be! Bling is a great way to make a statement in an unexpected room, such as a kitchen. It also gives you a chance to add in other metals and pops of bling as an accent.

CROWN MOULDING AND CEILING DETAILS

Another major feature in homes is moulding. With ceiling heights continuing to increase in many homes, crown moulding can add a bit more detail up high without being too dramatic on the eye. Whether you're considering adding it in a contemporary home or an old-fashioned one, crown moulding looks wonderful along the perimeter of any room while also adding character to it.
