Now that many of us are spending a lot more time inside, it’s a great time to bring new life to our spaces by going through what we already own. From closets to drawers, you likely have a variety of accessories or knickknacks that have been collecting dust – and now you can finally put them to good use! Designer Andrew Pike shared easy ways to refresh and switch up your décor using items in your home that need a new purpose.
Styling a coffee table can definitely go a long way and make quite a statement. A simple way to bring new attention to your everyday coffee table is by creating small groupings of décor (the number will depend on the size of your coffee table). Something as ordindary as a glass bowl can be used as a display piece, especially if you tie it together with small plants or candles! If there are any books you have sitting in old boxes, bring them out and place them strategically on your coffee table - even if you aren't planning on reading them, nobody has to know!
While adding a centrepiece onto your dining table is an easy way to dress it up, smaller groupings are an equally great way to decorate a table. When the table isn’t in use, tall vases and décor can bring attention to the space, however, you’ll want to move them for dining so that you can see each person. At the same time, think practically. You don’t want to be removing a ton of décor out of the way every time you need to use the table. It’s important to scale your décor to the size of your table.
If you need most of your kitchen counter for function, try not to flood it with too many things. Items that are both practical and aesthetically-pleasing, such as a tea cup set or wood cutting board, can be placed on display. Not only will this clear up cabinet space but it also gives you the opportunity to play around with some of the pieces that you get the most use out of. A wood board can be the base for your favourite cookbooks or even a vase of flowers! Try and work in groups rather than just spreading random things out around your counter.
