Snapping the perfect photo for Instagram isn't always a walk in the park. Style Expert Meredith Shaw shared her top tips on how to pose with confidence, find the best lighting and scope out the best locations! We're also sharing must-have accessories that are trending this summer so you look your best and own your photos with confidence.
Having the right summer accessories is a big part of getting the perfect insta-worthy and unique shot. A staple item for any outfit is a silk scarf. Not only are they a fashionable classic, but you can use them in many different ways! For example, you can tie one on the handle of your bag or even use it as a hair tie.
If you've been scrolling through Instagram lately, you've probably already seen the hairclip trend. When it comes to dressing up your hair, pearl and sparkle clips are all the rage these days. You can layer them and match them to your outfit. Another staple accessory is a fabulous necklace. Beautiful and danty necklaces are all over social media this summer, especially monogramed ones.

Feel awkward when posing for photos? That's totally normal! Owning your body and walking with confidence are steps you can take towards breaking out of your shell. A lot of people aren't sure what to do with their hands when getting ready for a photo. Awkward hands can really ruin a beautiful shot, so try to shake them off before putting your camera face on. There's many poses you can do that involve the use of your hand. Such as place them on your hips and running them through your hair.
Don't be afraid to plan out your poses before actually doing them. Knowing how to stage the perfect "candid" is what will help you be prepared for any photo. When it comes to group shots, avoid the ends at all costs. Try and get yourself in the middle so that you can work your best angles.
Even if you've spent hours on your hair and makeup, horrible lighting won't capture how incredible you really look. Overhead lighting isn't a great option so try to get outside or near a window. Natural lighting is always you're best bet! If it happens to be dark out, ask a friend to shine their phone flashlight on you while another friend snaps the pic.
Having a great location is essential. There are tons of photo-worthy spots in Toronto such as Graffiti Alley. A unique background will draw many eyes to your photo, especially if it's a hidden gem that not many people have been to! On the other hand, try not to have a background that's too busy. If there are lots of people behind you or a wall that has a lot going on, it can be too distracting. Make sure you're not lost amongst your backdrop! Coordinate your outfit so that you stand out.
