To begin our New Zealand adventure, Marilyn, Lynn Crawford and Andrew Pike attended a Powhiri a Māori, welcoming ceremony, which is usually reserved for special occasions or dignitaries who are then welcomed onto the Mare (meeting grounds) for the first time by Tangata Whenua—the people of that land.
