The holidays can be a lot, to say the least. But don't let the hustle and bustle dampen your Yuletide spirit. We’re sharing a list of things you can do to get you out of your festive funk and stop your holidaze in its tracks.

Indulge in self-care

Take a break from the holiday frenzy to do something that’s just for you. And whatever it is, don't put it off. A little extra self-care early in the season will go a long way in keeping burnout at bay. Whether you book an afternoon at a local spa or get your makeup done by a beauty expert, let your focus be on feeling refreshed. If you want to keep spending at a minimum, carve out some time to pamper yourself at home. Try a luxurious bath or a DIY rejuvenating mask. Or maybe start a gratitude journal or meditate. Besides, it's called a holiday for a reason.

Make time to catch up with friends

It's a fact that friends can boost your happiness and reduce your stress, making the holidays a perfect time to reconnect. But are you and your friends stuck in a coffee catch-up rut? Time to shake things up. If you love to host, throw a low-key wine and cheese night. Keep things extra casual by asking everyone to dress down in PJs. If staying in isn't your thing, check out a local paint and sip or get out to a Christmas market.

Enjoy (rare) downtime at home

Whether it's a whole day or a couple of hours to yourself, do that thing you've always wanted to do in your spare time. Whatever it is - go all out! Watch movies all day in your flannels and order takeout. Sleep in ‘til noon or get through an entire novel uninterrupted. If you have a full house, let others know about your plans for a little downtime. It sets boundaries and keeps family members from feeling left out. And don't forget to relax. Your many to-do lists will be there to tackle tomorrow!

Take a road trip

Nothing like a short and sweet getaway to shake off the holiday blues. With plenty of hotels and winter escape packages available, there's something for every budget. A day or two spent connecting with the Great Outdoors and disconnecting from everyday life may be just what you need. Or plan a surprise family weekend trip to a hot spot just outside of the city. As the festive season ramps up, hit reset and recharge!

Keep up with your regular workouts

Staying active over the holidays is one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental well-being. And by sticking to your exercise routine in December, you’ll bring your A-game into the new year. Plus, fitness keeps you hydrated! That's no easy task with so many eye-catching festive drinks vying for your attention. On days when you can’t squeeze in a full workout, go for a walk and burn off those extra holiday calories. On that note…

Stick to your regular diet (when you can)

Overeating and drinking are almost synonymous with the holidays - but it doesn't have to be. Take the ‘everything in moderation approach this season and dodge the average one-pound weight gain during the holidays. Try out these helpful tips: keep healthy snacks handy at the office (and at home), don’t skip meals, or show up to holiday parties on an empty stomach.

Get more (quality) sleep

Are you one in five Canadians that drag themselves out of bed in the morning because you haven't had a good night's rest? We see you. With packed social calendars during the holidays, it can be hard to get the recommended seven to nine hours of shut-eye. So if you can't sleep more, sleep better. Maybe it's time to treat yourself to that new pillow or white noise machine you've been contemplating all year. With a few minor improvements, you’ll feel rested and ready for the festivities.
