Fun and easy ways to play with your hair colour at home

Temporary hair colour comes in so many amazing colours and application techniques now – and it’s the perfect time to test them out! Hair stylist Cindy Duplantis shares some of her favourite new products for safely playing around with your hair colour without the committment!

Shampoo

Try: Celeb Luxury Gem Lites Colorwash, $49.50

What it does: Revamp your natural colour, change up your existing colour, or you can use it as a toner to refresh your blonde. But it’s non commitment!

How to use it:

1. Apply a generous amount evenly on wet hair.
2. Massage into lather for 1-2 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
3. Repeat for more intense colour.
4. Alternate with clear shampoo every other wash to maintain color vibrancy.
5. With continued use, hair never fades. Will not lighten or cover grey hair or regrowth.

How Long it takes: 5-10 minutes

How long it lasts: Will last for a few washes

Hair Colour Mask

Try: MoroccanOil Color Depositing Mask Bordeaux, $32.00

What it does: Say you have brown hair with a blonde balayage, but you want to try a new colour - this will let you do that and it will be out in a few washes! Plus it has the added bonus of a deep conditioner You can be sitting outside with a colour mask, then wash it out in the evening and have a different hair colour! Use it to try out new colours, and play around with the summers new trending colours

How to use it: 

1. Start with clean, towel-dried hair.
2. Section hair and apply a generous amount.
3. Distribute evenly using a wide-tooth comb.
4. Leave on for 5–7 minutes, depending on desired intensity
5. Rinse thoroughly. Style as usual.

How Long it takes: 10-15 minutes

How long it lasts: 3-5 washes

HAIR COLOUR DRY SHAMPOO

Try: Kerachroma Color Me Clean Dry Shampoo Rose Gold, $25.95

What it does: Dry shampoo isn't just to get you between washes anymore! This will change your look but only last till your next wash. It’s a fun way to add subtle colour to your hair,  and even better to enhance those summer updo looks.

How to use it:

1. Shake well before each use.
2. Keep the nozzle about 12 inches from the head, section hair and spray into roots.
3. Massage thoroughly with fingertips to blend color.
4. Let dry completely, then gently brush through for beautiful results.
   1. For shadow roots or temporary hints & highlights: Hold nozzle 4-6 inches away from head, section hair and spray desired strands.

How Long it takes: 2- 5 minutes

How long it lasts: One wash

BALAYAGE SPRAY 

Try: KMS Style Color Dusky Blonde, $29.50

What it does: Add some easy sunkissed highlights to your hair without worrying about the damage.

How to use it:

1. Place a towel around your shoulders.
2. Section hair into smaller pieces
3. Shake well and spray approx. 15cm from the head onto dry hair.
4. Washes out easily with one shampoo.

How Long it takes: 5- 10 minutes

How long it lasts: One wash

WET SPRAY FOR TONING BRASSY BLONDE

Try: BLONDME Instant Blush Steel Blue, $19.95

What it does: You spray it on a look to take out any brassy undertones to make sure your hair stays summer ready!

How to use it:

1. Shake the bottle well before use.
2. Spray on your shampooed and conditioned hair.
3. The hair needs to be damp or towel-dried.
4. Comb it through for even distribution.
5.  Leave in and style as usual!
6. Professional Tricks: use to softly neutralize your blonde color.
