A makeup expert reveals what products to splurge and save on

We all know makeup can be expensive especially when you don’t know how to pick the right product. It’s not necessary to spend a ton of money on everything that goes into your makeup bag. Makeup expert Christine Cho shared her tips on how to decide which beauty products are worth the splurge and which ones you can get at your local drugstore.
Mascara: Splurge
Generally, drugstore mascara works well. But there are a few cult classics that perform noticeably better and are worth the investment. This mascara is an incredible all-in-one—it lengthens, volumizes and has a deep pigment for an extra boost of colour. It won’t flake or smudge, plus it will give you a clean defined look in one coat.
SHOP: They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara; $27 at Benefit Cosmetics
Lip gloss: Save
This lip gloss is what budget dreams are made of. Infused with hyaluronic acid to instantly hydrate your lips, the shine is beautiful and it smells delicious.
SHOP: Lifter Gloss; $9.49 at Maybelline
Foundation: Splurge
This new formula from Estee Lauder is feather-light, so it allows the skin to breathe and shine through the makeup. It helps to even out skin tone and resists sweat and humidity even on the hottest of days. Use it to cover up trouble spots and blemishes or all over the face.
SHOP: Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation SPF 19; $46 at Estee Lauder
Blush: Save
We’re all about cream blush right now. It’s so easy to use your fingers and blend a creamy product like this one from NYX. You can go light on the makeup with a sheer tint or layer it on for a more vibrant bold effect.
SHOP: Sweet Cheeks Soft Tint; $9.50 at NYX
Eyeliner: Splurge
Eyeliners should last all day long once applied, but we know that may not always be the case. Spending a little bit more on your eyeliner will ensure its sustainability in your makeup bag. We love this Glide-on Pencil from Urban Decay because it’s super easy to apply and lasts all day (and night).
