French tips are back and new ways to DIY are blowing up on social media. Beauty expert Chantel Guertin put three TikTok hacks to the test to see if they actually work.

Hack 1: Silicone stamper

Silicone stampers are great for putting designs on your nails. Apply nail polish to the stamper – first paint three to four strokes in one direction, then three to four strokes in the cross direction. Gently press your nail into the stamper to get the tip. Do all nails, let it dry, and then gently remove the excess nail polish from the back of your finger using a paint brush and nail polish remover.

Hack 2: Back of your fingers

This hack sounds like it will be much easier, and is definitely less expensive. Brush three to four strokes onto the soft part of your hand in one direction, then three to four strokes in the cross direction. Gently press your nail into the soft part of your hand. Use your right hand for your left nails and vice versa. Remove excess nail polish from the backs of your fingers using a paint brush and nail polish remover.

Hack 3: Use a Balloon

This hack is a DIY version of the stamper. Fill a small balloon with just enough air to fill it, but keep it small so it’s easy to maneuver in one hand. Apply nail polish to a small square of the balloon like you did in the above steps. Gently grasp the balloon with one hand and press each nail into it to get the desired tip. Remove excess polish with a small brush and nail polish remover.
