Ingredients
- 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 hot Italian sausages, casings removed
- 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp whole grain mustard
- 2 cups 35% cream
- 1 454g package of penne
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1 bunch fresh basil, chopped
- 1 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, plus more for serving
Directions
- Heat a large deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Add in olive oil and sausage meat, and using a wooden spoon, begin to break apart sausage as it cooks.
- Once sausage is golden, crispy and cooked through, add in garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Add in mustard and cream and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low.
- Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente and reserve ½ cup of the cooking water.
- Add cooked pasta to the sauce pan, along with the reserved cooking water, lemon zest, basil and cheese. Increase heat to high, and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until sauce has thickened. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Top with more grated cheese and serve immediately.
