More than 60% of people in North America live with excess weight or obesity - and for many, losing weight can seem daunting.

Physician Dr. Sandy Van joined The Social to talk more about obesity, including the root causes, stigmas surrounding it, and potential treatments including lifestyle changes, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, medication and surgery.

She explained some of the problems with the medical definition of the chronic disease and the 'fat phobia' that appears all throughout our culture. Dr. Van wants to make one thing very clear - obesity is not a character flaw, it's a medical condition!
