As the holidays approach, students across Canada are in the thick of their exam season, which means one thing—stress. In an effort to help students feel calmer and less stressed during their December exams, a new study space affiliated with Ryerson University has been transformed a cozy, Canadiana winter wonderland. With cozy couches, hot chocolate, snow-misted windows and calming scents to help students relax while studying, the space was designed by education consultant and ‘math guru’ Vanessa Vakharia. She stopped by Your Morning to dish out some tips to help all students feel less anxious during their exam season.

Lighting

A little mood lighting can really set the tone. You want your lights to be bright enough to study and keep you awake, but focus on warm tones instead of florescent bulbs. Try adding twinkle lights or candles for extra ambiance.

Scent

This is a huge deal! Try naturally scented candles or oils in scents that stimulate the brain and reduce stress like peppermint, lemongrass, lavender and vanilla.

Things you love

Adding trinkets and artworks that make a space feel cozy, safe and magical is a great idea. For example, try crystals, photos of inspirational people, favourite quotes, paintings, stuffed animals, and dream-catchers.

Sound

First, figure out how you work best - is it in silence? While listening to classical music? EDM? If you get distracted by outside noises, think about noise-cancelling headphones.[video_embed id='1500174']Easy fixes for math meltdowns[/video_embed]
