Friday, October 11th is
National Coming Out Day, a day to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) identities that make up our diverse communities. In celebration,
Your Morning was joined by award-winning news anchor and co-host of Ottawa's
CTV Morning Live,
Leslie Roberts, who shared his experience of coming out as a gay man in the workplace 30 years ago. For those who might not be familiar with Leslie's story, he came out at a time when conversations weren't as focused on inclusion and acceptance as they are now. At the time, he was married to a woman and working in the same newsroom. Now, he's ready to share his story. As part of Bell Media's 'Diversity and Inclusion Think Tank', Roberts spoke on his personal story, how coming out is never a 'one-and-'done' process, and how happy he is to work for a company that embraces diversity after being told to not speak about his sexuality at other stations. For our chat with Leslie, check out the video above.
