BBQ’d French onion grilled cheese
Ingredients
- 1 French loaf of bread, cut into one large sandwich
- 6 medium vidalia onions, sliced thinly
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- 8 slices mozzarella
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
Directions
- Start by cutting and cooking onions on medium to low heat for an hour until soft and caramelized and let cool.
- Take a loaf of French bread (not baguette!!) and cut horizontally as if you were making one large sandwich.
- Place the onions and cheese inside the bread and close up.
- Brush the melted butter with all herbs and spices in the butter, all around the loaf and place on a medium heated grill.
- Cook for 15 minutes, turning and moving making sure not to burn the bread. Make sure to constantly brush with melted butter.
- Right when you’re about to take the loaf off the grill, press down on the loaf like a panini.
- Cut into pieces and serve.
