1 teaspoon dried basil, oregano or savoury (optional)
1 egg, beaten
Directions
In large bowl, combine water, oil, sugar and yeast; stir to combine. Let sit for 10 minutes (until foamy). Add flour and salt. Mix to form ball. Transfer to clean surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about six to eight minutes. Return to bowl; cover and place in warm place for 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, combine butter, garlic and dried spice (if using). Pour two thirds into casserole or cast iron pan. Tilt pan to coat bottom.
On lightly floured surface, divide dough into 24 equal balls. Place into buttered casserole. Pour remainng butter overtop. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes. Brush top with egg wash.
Preheat oven to 375F.
Bake until puffed and lightly golden brown, about 35-40 minutes.
