Ingredients
For dough
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 envelope instant yeast
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For topping
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
- In a bowl, add water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to stand for five minutes, or until yeast bubbles up.
- Add flour, and salt to a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment, and combine.
- Add olive oil to yeast mixture, and slowly stream into stand mixer until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl to form a ball. If the mixture is too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until this happens.
- Cover bowl with plastic wrap, and allow to rest in a warm place until dough doubles in volume (approximately one and a half hours)
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Divide dough in two, and then cut into eight pieces. Using your hands roll each piece into a cylinder. Using a sharp paring knife, cut the dough into eight equal 10-inch bread sticks.
- Gently shape the dough so that they look like breadsticks, and transfer to a lined baking sheet coated in cooking spray. Make sure to slightly space them apart.
- Bake for seven to eight minutes, until just slightly golden.
- Melt butter with salt and garlic powder. Brush over warm breadsticks, and top with a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
