Ingredients
For dough
1 teaspoon sugar
1 envelope instant yeast
4 cups bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
For topping
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
In a bowl, add water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to stand for five minutes, or until yeast bubbles up.
Add flour, and salt to a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment, and combine.
Add olive oil to yeast mixture, and slowly stream into stand mixer until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl to form a ball. If the mixture is too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until this happens.
Cover bowl with plastic wrap, and allow to rest in a warm place until dough doubles in volume (approximately one and a half hours)
Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Divide dough in two, and then cut into eight pieces. Using your hands roll each piece into a cylinder. Using a sharp paring knife, cut the dough into eight equal 10-inch bread sticks.
Gently shape the dough so that they look like breadsticks, and transfer to a lined baking sheet coated in cooking spray. Make sure to slightly space them apart.
Bake for seven to eight minutes, until just slightly golden.
Melt butter with salt and garlic powder. Brush over warm breadsticks, and top with a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
