Kalbi style beef ribs

For the marinade:

  • 1 cup (240 milliliters) soy sauce
  • 3/8 cup (90 milliliters) honey
  • 12 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) dark sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) grated fresh ginger
  • 1 Asian pear, chopped

For the ribs:

  • 900 grams Korean style beef ribs
  • Oil, for the grill



  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, garlic, onion, sesame oil, ginger, and pear.
  2. Put marinade in a plastic bag.


  1. Place the ribs in the plastic bag with marinade and let rest overnight.
  2. Next day, remove ribs from bag.
  3. Preheat stove top grill to medium-high, brush grill with oil.
  4. Cook ribs for four minutes per side or until medium rare. 

To serve:

  1. Snip between bones with kitchen shears or a knife and transfer to a platter.
