With a lighter, light the end of the applewood stick on fire until it smokes then cover with the empty whiskey bottle. Allow the smoke to accumulate inside until the bottle is completely opaque. Then lift the bottle and press the lid back on until fully sealed to preserve the smoke. Set aside.
In a mixing glass, add one sugar cube and 5 drops of orange bitters. Muddle together. Add 60 milliliters of whiskey. Add ice and stir with barspoon. Carefully pour the old fashioned into the smoked container. Put the lid back on and shake up the cocktail with the smoke. The more you shake it, the smokier the flavour.
Finally pour the mixture over ice in a rocks glass and let the smoke fall over the cocktail. Garnish with an orange peel and maraschino cherry.
