Each year we see unique and bold design trends, and this year is no exception! Lynda Reeves, founder and publisher of House & Home Magazine, walked us through the top design trends for 2020 and how we can incorporate them into our homes.
Beige and Spiced Rust: To bring warmth into your home, spiced rust is a rich colour that works especially well with wood floors. It's a beautiful contrast to beige and adds a unique touch to any space.
Tumeric and Chocolate: This combination is fantastic in a kitchen and complements deep colours such as emerald green. Think of chocolate as a new black! Wherever you would typically tie in black, opt for dark chocolate instead.
Gallery Blue and Cantaloupe: Blue is Pantone's Colour of the Year and it's definitely a colour for those that want to make a statement. The bright and bold colour is a great contrast to darker tones. swap out millennial pink for cantaloupe. for a bathroom, a bedroom, anywhere that you want a bit of softness.
Neo-Mint and Muted Lavender: Neo-mint might seem hard to incorporate into your space, but paired with a muted lavender, you can bring a retro feel to your kitchen! For those that have mid-century-modern furniture, this combination will definitely complement your pieces. You can also view lavender as an alternative to grey, as it's perfect for a sophisticated living room.
Off-White and Pretty Blue: If the Scandinavian look is your vibe, look no further than off-white. You simply can't go wrong with off-white no matter what room you're painting. For those that want to get creative with something young and hip, pretty blue is the way to go.
Sustainability: Thankfully, a lot of companies are starting to use recycled materials and are tying sustainability into their brand values. It's so important to read labels before purchasing something and try to invest in pieces that aren't harsh for our environment. There are many sustainable alternatives to products you would normally buy, just ensure that you do your research. Avoid buying things for one season and then tossing them.
Going Green: Mixing and incorporating a variety of green shades in one space is a huge decor trend for this year! One way to achieve this look is by opting for dark green glazed tiles paired with soft green throw pillows. To take things one step further. you can tie green into your accessories.
Throwback Florals: Not only is mixing colours a huge trend, but so is mixing prints! Florals are coming back better than ever, but they're not as loud as before. From wallpaper to fabric, you can tie in subtle florals throughout your home. Big-scale florals are great for walls while small-scale ones can be used for bedding and accessories.
Plush Everything: Who doesn't love staying home and being cozy? For those that can't get enough of warm nights at home, plush is perfect. From lampshades to sofas, plush will help you achieve a retro vibe that's still trendy.
