When it comes to the main items we interact with, from hardware to faucets, metallics are on all of them. Not only are metals something we see daily, but now it can be a strong element of a room’s story.
Over the last few years, there’s been a transition from chrome to warm metals. With changing palettes and the need for a little more spunk, orange and yellow metals have become increasingly more popular.
If gold is a big change for you and your space, opt for pieces that combine numerous metals. For example, you can get a light fixture that combines both black and gold together so that it’s not as intense as only gold. However, if you want to ease into it, golds are much softer now than ever before. They come in a range of colours starting from strong yellows to a lighter and more tinted version. You can even choose between sheen, matte and high gloss depending on the surfaces you have in your space. Newest to the market are orange-based metals. Rose gold and copper add an earthy, yet chic feel to a room.
Having more than one metal in your home is extremely common and can be used to your advantage. Whether you use pieces that combine metal colours or separate metals by room (i.e. silver diving room and a gold bedroom), having a variety of metals is never a bad idea! If you prefer to stick with just one, you can never go wrong with polished nickel. It’s timeless, classic and looks great with almost any room.
There are a few important things to keep in mind before you go out and purchase new metals for your home. Always request samples before purchasing because even if you know the name of the metal you want, it’s likely that two pieces might not match when side by side.
Matte golds look absolutely spectacular in any home, but some show fingerprints easily. If cleaning your metals constantly isn’t ideal for you, make sure to test them out before purchasing.
When it comes to bathrooms or pieces that are used daily, keep in mind that black metal can be harder to care for. For an option that’s a little bit more low-maintenance, you can combine chrome in your shower fixture and incorporate black onto your vanity faucets.
