Money can bring up a lot of emotions, and if you're constantly thinking about it, it can cause anxiety, guilt and envy. Tiffany Aliche, the financial educator behind Budgetnista and the author of the book Get Good with Money shares four tips on getting over money envy. Get to know your budget. A monthly budget is a really simple picture of money coming in and money coming out in that time frame. You can write it down the old-fashioned way, or use an app that will do it for you.
Squirrels are super savvy savers. When things are in abundance, that's when squirrels work the hardest and save the most, so that way they can survive the winter. So do the same with your money! When money is coming in, maybe from a raise or a short-term contract, lean in and work a little harder and save the most for your financial winter that may come.
When it comes to getting out of debt, it can't be your only focus. Debt freedom is a goal but it's not THE goal. So, Tiffany suggests setting the goal and almost forget it, using either the snowball method or avalanche method, by focusing on the debt with the lowest balance or the lowest interest rate first.
It's important to know your credit score because, by the time you need it, it's going to take a while to build it up. Know your score, don't freak out about it and continuously work on it to get better so when you need it, it’s ready for you.
