Lately, our social media feeds have been filled with posts of at-home haircuts. While they don't always turn out the way we hope, having a few tips and tricks can definitely make a world of a difference. If you're looking for a simple guide to follow when it comes to men's haircuts, we've got you covered! Hairstylist Aaron O’Bryan shared all the steps you need to take to make your at-home haircut a success, including the tools you should have on hand!

What you need

  • Comb
  • Trimmers
  • Water bottle
  • Oil for trimmers
  • Guards for trimmers
  • Washable kids marker

Directions

  1. Wet down your hair and slightly towel dry it. Take your washable marker and place starting points for your trimmers around the hairline to keep everything even on both sides of the head. If you have very short hair you can also use the marker to create guidelines along the head.
  2. Start off with a larger guard along your markings so you can get the desired length by working your way down to shorter lengths (this will stop you from taking too much off).
  3. When using your trimmers, follow a scooping motion to create more of a blend.
  4. Continue this through each level that you have marked on your head increasing your guard size every time you move up the head.
  5. Use your scissors for the top, take your comb and bring the hair straight up and cut.
  6. Wash and style as usual.
