Brown Butter Espresso Martini

Ingredients

For the Brown Butter Washed Vodka

  • 2 cups vodka
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter

For the Brown Butter Espresso Martini

  • 2 oz brown butter–washed vodka (see above)  
  • 1 oz freshly brewed espresso chilled  
  • ¾ oz coffee liqueur (Kahlúa or Mr. Black) 
  •  ¼ oz simple syrup  
  • Pinch of flaky salt  

Directions

For the Brown Butter Washed Vodka

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.  
  2. Swirl occasionally until it foams and turns golden with a nutty aroma.  
  3. Remove immediately to avoid burning. Cool slightly. 
  4. Combine: Pour vodka into a jar or container. Add warm brown butter and stir. Infuse:  
  5. Let sit at room temp for 3 hours, swirling occasionally.  
  6. Freeze:Transfer to freezer for 6 hours or overnight — the butter will solidify on top.  
  7. Strain:Crack the fat cap and pour vodka through a coffee filter or fine sieve. 
  8. Store in a bottle or jar in the fridge

For the Brown Butter Espresso Martini

  1. Shake: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake hard for 15–20 seconds until frothy.  
  2. Strain: Fine strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.  
  3. Garnish: Float 3 espresso beans
