Every year new food trends rile people up and 2023 is no different. There’s a polarizing fruit that’s getting major attention on every trend roundup this year and it’s known as “nature’s candy" aka dates. Food expert, Bianca Osbourne shares four recipes to get us inspired to eat dates in unique and simple ways.

Easy date caramel

This caramel sauce is so easy to make and there’s so much you can do with it. If you don’t like the coconut flavour of coconut oil, you can use refined coconut oil to avoid it. This sauce is higher in fiber than other sweeteners because of the whole date.

Middle Eastern date cake

Using dates to sweeten desserts ups the fiber content, and makes cakes and baking super moist and dense. This tahini date cake is made with bulgur wheat and cardamom.

Date snickers

Perfect as an afternoon snack, and can be made ahead, frozen, and thawed. It’s a make-ahead treat everyone will love.

Bacon wrapped dates

The sweetness from the dates offset the saltiness of the bacon and sausage. This is an amazing dish for entertaining, because it can be made ahead, and baked and served in the same dish.
