While Pride month may be looking a little different this year due to physical distancing measures, there's still plenty of ways to celebrate at home and online.
Trevor Frankfort is an event planner, and he's put together a bunch of colourful, creative and cute ideas that range from décor to drinks. Interested? Find his suggestions below, and watch the video above for even more from Trevor!
VIRTUAL PRIDE
COVID-19 won’t stop people from continuing to create space for everyone to express who they truly are. There are so many online events you can find like LGBT2Q+ Trivia, Drag queens reading children’s books, “How to” workshops, dance parties, sober talks and much more.Toronto is celebrating Pride virtually this month, while other major Canadian cities will have their celebrations in July, August and September. Every city’s pride website will list their scheduled online events featuring lineups of DJs, performers, drag artists, singers and dancers with a heavy focus on implementing visual arts and community-focused programming. Pride Toronto will be streaming a virtual parade this Sunday. It will have prerecorded, with live aspects to it, and will be showcasing dignitaries, local talent, community leaders, drag queens/kings and they say there’s a very exciting surprise celebrity performance.

DRINKS
One of the easiest things to add to any drink is colourful ice cubes! Just add some food colouring to an ice cube tray, and boom - rainbow ice.For a delicious and colourful drink to enjoy this month, try a gorgeous and tasty rainbow sangria. In a large pitcher, stir together white wine, triple sec, lime juice, and sugar until combined. You can either have the fruit in the pitcher or have the fruit in the glass already. Layer blackberries, blueberries, kiwis, pineapple, mango and strawberries. Pour the wine mixture over the fruit and voila.
BUBBLES FOR KIDS
Make some homemade rainbow bubbles! In a pitcher you mix water, dish soap, and glycerin. Small bottles of glycerin can be found in the cake aisle at the craft store. If you don’t have glycerin on hand though, corn syrup can be used instead but may not produce quite as bubbly results.
DIY INSTRUCTIONSWhat you need:• Clear dish soap• Essential oils (optional)• Water• Food colouring• Containers or bowls• Glycerin• Scissors• Pipe cleaners or wires1. In a pitcher mix six cups of water, two cup of dish soap, one tablespoon of glycerin.2. Pour an even amount into separate bowls (amount depends on how many colours you will be making)3. Add food colouring. Use one drop at a time to get the dark or lightness you prefer.4. Bend pipe cleaners and/or wire into shapes. Make sure they have a long handle and that the opening fits in your bowls or containers.5. Dip into the mixture and blow.6. Optional: If you wanted to make them scented add some essential oil as well (one or two drops will suffice). It's fun to theme the scents and colours: Red = Cinnamon, Orange = Orange, Yellow = Lemon, Green = Peppermint, Blue = Vanilla, Purple = Lilac.
Food
For breakfast, try rainbow pancakes. It's so easy, make the batter according to the usual recipe, move the batter into separate bowls and add food colouring. The trick to making a perfect pancake without any burn lines is to keep the stove temperate on low and cook the pancake batter nice and slow.
It seems that everyone is making bread while stuck at home during the quarantine. Have you tried? This is a braided egg loaf, or Challah. You would make this the same way as you would any other egg loaf, but this time, before you proof the dough, you separate it into six and knead in the food colouring. Once this is done and the dough rises you braid them all into this shape, let it rise again and bake it.
This is just a typical delicious and fresh pasta salad that incorporates different vegetables to make it super colourful, just like a rainbow. Used the tri-coloured pasta as well as red and orange tomatoes, Kalamata olives, kale, red onion, yellow pepper, corn, and artichokes. But really you can get as creative as you want and add anything colourful into this!Food provided by
