While most of us aren't wearing much makeup these days, celebrities like Rachel Zoe and Ashley Graham recently said that makeup is providing some joy and making them feel human while they're isolating during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you feel the same way, makeup artist Victoria Radford has some fresh looks for spring you should try before your next Zoom call. This spring is all about glowing complexions with a fresh hint of hydrated-looking colour, and pastels are the go-to colours.

LOOK 1: PINK AND DEWY SKIN

Dewy skin has become a trend of its own and it’s huge for spring. Skin is hydrated, nourished, and luminous without looking metallic. And the great thing about this trend is that it’s about skincare first, which is something nice we can all do for ourselves right now.

HOW-TO:

  1. The key to this look is creating a flawless, hydrated base, and this is why you want to prep your skin overnight.
  2. After cleansing, exfoliate with your favourite product. Next, apply a hydrating mask. If you don’t have a suitable mask, just use triple the amount of night cream, to the point where it’s almost visible on your skin. In the morning, cleanse and apply a tinted sunscreen.
  3. Now, for that dewy pink finish, use a cream product versus a powder. Using your fingers, dab product on the apples of your cheeks because this is where you want the most concentration of colour. Then, draw colour down the jawline and lastly, tap onto your eyes. Remember that using a single product for the whole face is the way to go for a natural look like this.

LOOK 2: LILAC EYES

Lilac is definitely the standout eyeshadow colour this spring. It’s a pastel purple that’s incredibly fresh and perfect for the season. Something to note is that purple is complementary to every eye colour. It makes green eyes more yellow; blue eyes fresher and brighter; and it brings out the gold in brown eyes. It also makes the whites of everyone’s eyes that much brighter!

HOW-TO:

    1. The secret to getting that perfect lilac eye is to layer your colour because if you don’t, the colour payoff won’t be there. First, use any purple liner to line your upper lash line and make sure you bring it down and around the corners of your eyes.
    2. Next, layer your purple shadow on top. For more intensity, dip brush in a bit of water before adding product, and then put a layer of dry shadow on top. To avoid any harsh lines, blend out the top of your lids with the bronzer you would normally use. Using a neutral product on the eyes that’s already a part of your face makeup gives the entire look a natural feel.
