Like in fashion, colour blocking simply means pairing different panels of often bold colour together. This means applying a colour to a feature like your eyes, and then a contrasting shade to a feature like your lips. It’s a really fun way to experiment with colour, especially in the summer.Want to try it for yourself? Check out some of makeup artist Victoria Radford’s favourite ways to colour block with makeup! THE LOOK: PINK LIDS + RED LIP

Pink is a colour that looks gorgeous on every skin tone; the end result is fresh and flushed. Paired with a red lip, this is an example of monochromatic colour blocking, meaning you’re using shades of the same tone, so it’s guaranteed to look amazing. A pink-and-red combo is a great way to ease into colour blocking with makeup because the finished look is on the more subtle side.

How-to:

Start with the eyes to create a nice base. Using your finger, simply pat product on to eyelids and then on to cheeks as well. To further enhance the face, add a bit of highlight to the top of your lids, cheekbones and Cupid’s bow.Now time for the lip! If the pink you’re using on your eyes and cheeks is on the cooler side, opt for a cooler shade of red for the lips, like a cherry red. If you’re using a warmer shade of pink like a peachy pink, then a warmer shade of red would work nicely. Simply swipe on your lip colour, without being too precise; you want the overall look to be effortless.Check out the gallery below for products perfect for this look![gallery ids="/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/Charlotte-Tilbury-Pillow-Talk-Lip-and-Cheek-Glow.jpg,/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/Radford-Highlight-Stick.jpg,/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/Tom-Ford-Lip-Color.jpg"]

THE LOOK: PURPLE EYE + ORANGE LIP

Purple eyes are not only a huge trend this season, but purple enhances every eye colour. It pairs beautifully with orange because purple and orange are complementary colours, meaning they’re on opposite sides of the colour wheel. This is a more adventurous look for anyone who wants to get into the hottest colors of the season. It looks great paired with a neutral outfit like black, white or denim.

How-to:

For a bold eye look, apply your purple pencil all over lids, starting at the lash line. Remember that when you’re going bright on the eyes, you don’t want to see any skin between your lashes and the product. For a more subtle look, simply keep the colour closer to your lashes.PRO TIP: The “eyeliner position” is very important here. Keep your chin close to the mirror and open your eyes wide! If you don’t keep your chin close, it’s impossible to access the lid. Smudge and blend out your product with your finger or a brush as desired. And again, for a more subtle look, simply smudge less. If you like, apply a bit of colour under the bottom lashes as well and blend out. When choosing your shade of orange, go with what makes you happy! It’s a colour that you can have a lot of fun with. Again, apply without being too precise – you want that blurred, effortless effect.Click on the gallery below for some products to help you pull off this look perfectly![gallery ids="/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/Charlotte-Tilbury-Eye-Shadow-Pencil-in-Amethyst-Aphrodisiac.jpg,/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/KISS-New-York-Luxury-Eyeliner.jpg,/content/dam/bellmedia/more-loop/2020/08/10/NYX-Dazed-Diffused-Blurring-Lipstick-in-Fuego.jpg"][video_embed id='2007997']BEFORE YOU GO: Father and daughter dance duo is going viral[/video_embed]
