No wardrobe is complete without staples like a simple white t-shirt or a basic pair of jeans, but over time, those staples can feel a little, well, boring. That’s why we asked stylist Erica Wark to show us how to update four closet essentials with some of the season’s hottest trends.

LOOK 1: JEANS AND PUFF SLEEP TOP

You certainly can’t go wrong by pairing a basic tee with your favourite pair of jeans, but there are some great updates you can make to this outfit for summer, starting with a puff-sleeve top; it’s all about statement sleeves this season. Swap out your sneakers for a pair of lace-up sandalS.

LOOK 2: WHITE T-SHIRT AND NEON SET

A white tee with denim is a classic combo, but consider taking this staple up a serious notch this season with some neon. Neon is a big trend right now! Remember, the beauty of a matching set is that you can break up the pieces, so if head-to-toe neon is too much for you, simply swap out the neon pant for your jeans and wear with sneakers. This blazer on top will make such a statement at your next Zoom meeting! To elevate the look, a pair of ankle-wrap sandals and a simple black crossbody.

LOOK 3: DENIM JACKET, PRINTED TOP AND LONG SHORTS

You’re probably used to throwing your denim jacket over your white t-shirt, but summer is all about fun prints and colours, so why not pop a jacket on top of a blush pink tropical print button-up? Pair it with the season’s biggest short trend—the LONG short—and complete the look with blush pink mules.

LOOK 4: WHITE BUTTON UP AND PRINTED PANTS

A lot of us are used to wearing a white button-up with a basic black pant, but you can easily take this staple into summer by pairing it with a coloured pant. Any type of summery colour or print would look great. To elevate a look like this, add a white blazer, and then keep the light summery feel going with white accessories.
