Satanic squid

A scary version of this delicious calamari appetizer.

Ingredients
Hoisin Mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
Calamari
- 1 pound cleaned squid, sliced into thin rings and tentacles
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 teaspoon fresh black pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Serve
- 2 tablespoons chili crisp
Directions
Hoisin Mayonnaise
- Mix together hoisin sauce and mayonnaise until well combined.
- Set aside to serve.
Calamari
- Place the calamari in a bowl with the buttermilk and half the salt and stir Then refrigerate for three to four hours but preferably overnight.
- Preheat a fryer to 360° F.
- Add the flour, spices and salt, pepper and to a large bowl and stir together.
- Remove the squid from the buttermilk and dredge in the flour until all the squid is coated well.
- Fry the squid in batches for two to three minutes at a time so it is crisp and hot.
- Remove and drain the fried squid on paper towels.
Serve
- Toss with chili crisp and serve with hoisin mayonnaise. Enjoy!
