  • 1 cup atta (Whole wheat flour)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup of water, or more to form dough
  • More flour for dusting


  1. In a bowl, mix together flour, salt, and vegetable oil. Gradually add water until a soft dough forms. Cover the dough with a wet paper towel or cloth and aside to rest for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Lightly flour work surface. Pinch off golf ball sized pieces of dough, and roll out until thin and circular (approximately 20 centimeters in diameter).
  3. Heat a frying pan on medium high heat. Place chapathi in pan, and cook until slightly puffed on first side (one minute). Then flip over and cook for an additional 30-45 seconds, or until you can see brown spots form on the other side.
  4. Remove from pan, and enjoy warm with your favourite curry :)
