Fat Washed Apple Coconut Rum Cocktail


What's a campout without a fireside cocktail? This fat-washed apple coconut rum cocktail is the perfect answer! A fat-washed cocktail is essentially creaming up the alcohol and taking the edge off with fat, and we do it here with coconut oil. It makes for an easy-to-drink cream-free cocktail!



Fat Washed Apple Coconut Rum

  • 1 cup caramel apple rum
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

To Serve

  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish
  • Coconut flakes, for garnish
  • Coconut water or ice cubes, to top


To Fat Wash the Alcohol 

  1. In a mason jar, add melted coconut oil to the caramel apple rum and shake well. Leave at room temperature for 4 hours. 
  2. Shake again and place in the refrigerator overnight. 
  3. Remove from fridge and skim all the coconut oil solids from the rum, strain if needed. 
  4. Stir in the vanilla. 


To Serve the Cocktail 

  1. On a plate, pour out cinnamon and coconut, wet the rim of each glass with coconut water and dip in the coconut cinnamon garnish. 
  2. Fill each glass halfway with ice (or use one large ice cube). Divide the rum evenly between 6 glasses and top with coconut water to fill the glasses. SERVE COLD.
