Smoky-holly jolly pecans and almonds

These delicious smoky spiced nuts are the hit at every holiday party, it’s almost impossible to enjoy just a few.



  • 2 tablespoon egg whites, whisked
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon Lapsang Souchong Tea (ground with spice grinder)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Smoky Maple Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 cup pecan halves


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Add egg whites to a small bowl and whisk with water. Add remaining ingredients (except for nuts), let sit in bowl for 15 minutes. Add nuts and mix to coat.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, add the nuts, and spread out over the sheet.
  3. Transfer to the oven and bake for 40 minutes or until crisp and golden in colour.  Let cool, serve as is, or as a complement on a cheese board.

Tip: Dip nuts in melted chocolate as a smoked-chocolate option.
