Strawberry blackberry basil sundae sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup blackberries, cut in half
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup basil leaves, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, zested


  1. Add butter to a pot on medium heat and let melt. Add strawberries, blackberries, sugar, balsamic glaze and vanilla extract. Let this cook for about 15 minutes until fruit is broken down and sauce is glossy. Let sauce cool completely, then add basil and lemon zest.

For an elevated sundae bar:

Use vanilla bean ice cream, and top your sundaes with those sauces an these toppings:

  1. Real maraschino cherries
  2. Toasted pine nuts
  3. Other toasted nuts
  4. Shortbread cookies
  5. Caramel corn
  6. Coconut chocolate chips
  7. Candied pistachios
  8. Pie crust crumble
  9. Dark chocolate chips
  10. Vanilla whipped cream
