Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 orange
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup spiced rum
  • 1/2 cup Calvados or apple brandy
  • Freshly grated nutmeg

Directions

  1. Add the butter and cloves to a medium saucepan. Using a vegetable peeler, remove large strips of the orange peel and add to the pot. Place over low heat to melt.
  2. When the butter is melted and begins to foam up a bit, add the apple juice and squeeze in the orange juice. Heat until steamy.
  3. Add in the rum and brandy, bring to a low simmer, then remove from the heat, stir well, and ladle into small mugs.
  4. Serve topped with a grating from fresh nutmeg. Enjoy!

TIP: You can prepare this recipe up to an hour in advance and keep it warm over low heat or in a slow cooker. If making over 15 minutes in advance, I do suggest removing the cloves as they tend to become overpowering the longer they steep.
