Funnel cake intestines

This is traditional fairground funnel cake…but…gutsy!

Ingredients

Funnel Cakes

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red food colouring
  • 2 to 3 drops green food coloring
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1-2 drops red food coloring gel

Directions

Funnel Cakes

  1.  In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and food colouring until incorporated and set aside.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg together, add to the egg mixture, and beat until smooth.
  3. Transfer some batter into a large squeeze bottle and heat oil to 375 degrees F on a candy thermometer.
  4. Once oil reaches temperature, squeeze batter into hot oil in circular motions. Fry for about one to two minutes per side. Drain on a paper towel while you make the glaze. 

Glaze and Serve

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the glaze ingredients until smooth. Drizzle over or dip your funnel cakes in and serve. Enjoy!
