Salt rim:

  • 1 key lime, zested
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt

  • Ice
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed key lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup (or simple syrup)
  • Key lime and orange wedges, for garnish

  1. For the salt rim, combine the key lime zest and salt in a shallow bowl. Cut the key lime in half run the cut side over the rim of a lowball glass. Dip half or all of the rim in the salt, depending on how salty you like your margarita, half fill with some ice, and set aside.
  2. Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour over the tequila, orange liqueur, key lime juice, orange juice, and agave. Shake the cocktail well until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the cocktail is ice cold.
  3. Strain the cocktail into your prepared glass and garnish with citrus.
