Watermelon BBQ sauce

We know what you’re thinking—watermelons have no business being anywhere near BBQ sauce. Food expert Jason Skrobar proves otherwise.
This BBQ sauce is perfect for all grilled meat: ribs, chicken or pork tenderloin.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 white onion, coarsely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup watermelon puree
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Heat oil in a medium sized sauce pan. Add onions and cook for about five minutes or until they begin to break down.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and continue to cook for another ten minutes, stirring constantly.
- Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Transfer to a jar and let cool.
