Ingredients

  • 200gr 1-3 year aged Ontario gouda
  • 200gr Quebec blue cheese
  • 200gr creamy Quebec goat cheese
  • 200gr PEI aged cheddar
  • 150gr sliced local prosciutto
  • 150gr spicy sliced soppressata
  • 150gr sliced local pepperoni
  • 1 piece honeycomb
  • 1 jar crunchy, sour pickles
  • 1 pack locally made crackers, plain
  • 1 pack fruit/nut bread
  • 1 jar your favourite preserves (fig, blueberry, strawberry)
  • 1 pack walnuts or almonds

Directions

  1. Cheeseboards are typically assembled on a slate or wooden tray, which may be square, rectangular, or round. But if you don't already own one, don't feel like you need to go out and buy one. You can also use a plate, a cutting board, or even a baking sheet. Any flat surface will work.
  2. For the cheeses, try to include a variety of flavours and textures by selecting cheeses from different families. We're staying within the Canadian cheese family, including Ontario gouda, Quebec blue cheese, creamy Quebec goat cheese, and PEI-aged cheddar. Be sure to add some cheese knives around the board for your guests to serve themselves.
  3. Next, let's add some charcuterie or cured meats. Prosciutto, pepperoni and soppressata are all good options that compliment our selected cheeses.
  4. Now it's time to add some savoury elements to the board. Think pickled vegetables like carrots and celery, and salty foods like almonds and walnuts.
  5. Then to balance it out, you can add some sweetness. Be sure to go outside the box on this one and try honey, honeycomb or add your favourite preserves like blueberry, fig and strawberry.
  6. Make sure to offer a variety of bread, like fruit and nut bread, and crackers in different shapes, sizes, and flavours.
  7. And finally, finish it off with some garnishes. This is a great way to give your cheese board a seasonal touch. Use fresh herbs, or additional fruits to give your board the look and feel you want.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
