Silky mama cocktail

  • 3 cups blackberries (more for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 cups club soda
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • 120 millilitres (4 ounces) vodka


  1. Make a berry syrup: boil the berries, sugar and water in a pan, then simmer for 15 minutes. Push the berries through a fine sieve and allow the juice to cool.
  2. Non-alcoholic version: add the berry juice to each glass of sparkling water.
  3. Alcoholic version: add half a glass of sparkling water and 30 or 60 milliliters (one or two ounces) of vodka to 1/4 cup of berry juice.
  4. To both non-alcohol and alcohol glasses, add a large scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  5. Garnish with blackberries.
