Three-Ingredient Drinking Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 500ml whole milk (or water + ground maize for ancient style)
  • 100g dark chocolate (70–85% cacao), finely chopped
  • 1 pinch dried chili powder (cayenne or ancho)
  • Optional modern addition: 1 tsp vanilla extract or a cinnamon stick

Directions

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan over medium-low until steaming (do not boil).
  2. Whisk in chopped chocolate and chili powder until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Use a molinillo or a whisk to froth vigorously.
  4. Pour into small clay cups. Serve immediately.
